Don't be put off by the horror that is the treadmill...

Try something different every time you go, and give yourself a goal - e.g. I have been trying each time to reduce my 1000 metre row time, and I keep a little record. Gives you something to work toward.

And depending on your gym, check out some of the classes - most of them are pretty dull I find, but things like spinning and circuits are great.

In response to:Scales schmales...

I have joined the gym now too. Who knows why we do it, i think i suffer from whats called emotional eating, which i wouldn't mind, its the beating myself up afterwards that does the damage
the whole, 'well you blew it now, might as well have kebab and chips now you fat bar steward' really does my nut in
The thing I've tried to do and it's helped me at least, is to imagine how I'd feel "if" I eat what I needn't or shouldn't.

It has stopped me a couple of times. Like you say once you've eaten sometimes you really wish you hadn't. It's habit, I can so I will kinda thing.
About a month ago I started doing a lot of these things, like

- walking up all the escalators on the Tube,
- walking to and from the Tube in the morning rather than getting the bus
- going for a walk at lunchtime (on the days when I don't have time to get to the gym during the working day)

I'd take the stairs at work too, only I work on level 36 so it would take me all day :)

In response to:Resuscitation

easy tips to help you on your way

eating food is only a small part of your goals

try changing the way you do other everyday things

walk up stairs (dont use lifts or escalators)

go for a walk in the park (who needs expensive gyms?)

you will be surprised jus by very slight changes how much better you will feel - good luck
